Introduction

The Lawn Tennis Section actually functions as two separate sections, Ladies and Gents, but National Championships are held jointly with Men's and Ladies Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Veterans Doubles.

Regional events are held in May/June each year and are open to competitors who comply with Rule 36 of the Police Sport UK Constitution and Rules. All competitors must enter these Regional events to qualify for the National event which is usually held in September. The venue changes each year and we encourage all Forces who have tennis players to take their turn in hosting the event. Contact details for regional representatives and the National Committee can be found on this website. Depending on the size of the Region, the winner of each category at the regional event or both finalists qualify for the National Championships. At the discretion of the Ladies and Gents Team Captains, wildcards can also be issued in each category.

The Gents and Ladies Police Sport UK Team Captains select squads from those players who excel at the National Championships. There is a training camp ‘A’ v ‘B’ match and other official fixtures (usually 4 per year) including matches v Army, Dutch Police etc.

Both Gents and Ladies Tennis are USPE sports and Championships are held every 4 years.

Anyone interested in tennis should contact their own Force Sports Association in the first instance or their Regional Representative as detailed on this website.
