In 1977 a none Police Sport UK event was held at this distance but came fully under the Police Sport UK banner in1978. The Marathon is always held in conjunction with an already existing event but not one of the larger marathon competitions.
It was not until 1982 that the first lady completed the race. There is only one team event and both male and female athletes score for their team.
As always in this competition the team award is based on time not position.
Marathon is a USPE event for both male and female officers. Selection for USPE is always based on Police Sport UK Championship results.
There are no representative fixtures at this discipline.
