This event was first held in 1969 and hosted at the Police training centre, Northallerton. This event was held over 10 miles until 1999 when the distance was reduced to 10km. The event is usually held in September and over the last few years had been hosted by the West Midlands Police at their sports club in Birmingham, over a well defined course. The competition is open to both men & women and no qualification is required. In conjunction with this event there is also a representative fixture against the Civil Service and the RAF for the RYAN Cup. The Police Sport UK representative team is usually selected by the team captain just before the commencement of the event.
