Introduction

The Shooting Section was formed in 1957 and continues to flourish. Each year we hold a Long Range Championships on 2nd Tuesday of September for 3 days, at Bisley in Surrey. This event covers most of the disciplines of shooting available to target shooters with prizes confined to Police winners, but the competition is now open non-police shooters.     We enter 4 Police Sport UK Authorised international matches for rifle, in Dortmund, Wales and in England against the Army and Combined services.   The squad for USPE is chosen from the 10 shooters at the Long range Championships. Rifle shooting is a USPE event and is contested every 4 years.  For Air rifle we have 2 authorised matches against Wales and ISAS in Dortmund.   These also form part of the selection process for USPE events. We also enter full bore teams in authorised matches at Bisley, and against the Army. Postal league competitions act as qualifiers for the long and short range championships in Small-bore rifle.

It is with regret that we have to report the death of BILL WHITE, former Olympic shooter and retired City of London Police Officer. Bill was a great supporter of the Police Sport UK Shooting Section. His funeral will take place at Chichester Crematorium on the 8th June, at 12.30; details of which may be obtained from his NOK, Mr Peter Hobdell, telephone number 01252 615531
