The Clay Pigeon Shooting Section was formed in 1969, where at Oak leaf Shooting Ground, at Stockton On Tees, Durham, the first PAA Championships were held, shooting only Down The Line targets. In 1971 Sporting was added to the Championships, and then in 1974, Skeet was introduced, into the event.
Nowadays Competitors shoot 100 Sporting Targets, 100 Skeet Targets, and 100 Down the Line Targets, over 4 days of Competition, at the end of August each year, this year will see approximately 260 shooters competing at the National Championships.
The section currently has 26 Individual Trophies, for members to compete for, plus, 4 Team Trophies, and 3 International Team Trophies. The top 20 shooters at the end of each Championship, are then nominated to Shoot for the National Team, in the annual Inter Services events.
The Section has seven Representative fixtures each year, competing against the Army, Navy, RAF, Prison Service, Fire Service, for the Inter Services League title.
At present time there are no qualifying events, for the National Championships, but shooters are regulated by their own force sections, as each shooting discipline is different, therefore some shooters abilities, are also different. Most Forces host their own Regional Championships, and several forces, host a shoot each year, in our league table.
Clay Pigeon Shooting is not at present time, a USPE event, but we would be willing, to enter an event, should the opportunity arose.
