The Coarse Angling Section Results go back to 1961 suggesting this is when the section really got off the ground.
A Police Sport UK National Championship takes place in September each year. This event is for teams of 6. The majority of Forces can enter 1 team. Forces over 7000 establishment can enter 2 teams and the Metropolitan can enter 4 teams. The 'Individual' competition runs alongside the team event in that an individual's result (if it is the best) makes that person the Individual Champion, and so on. The date and venue is known 12 months in advance so everyone has the opportunity to practice up until two days before the event itself. The event is open to anyone without having to pre-qualify. However, certain Forces may implement their own selection procedures. The Championships normally attract in the region of 230 -250 persons.
Each Region also holds its own Police Sport UK Regional Championship event each year with Forces in each Region taking turns to run the event.
At the moment, the Section has one representative fixture. A team from each Region competes against the combined services (Army, Navy, Airforce) and emergency services (Fire, Ambo)
Coarse angling is not a USPE recognised event however there is an unofficial European Angling Championship which has been going on for the last 15 years with 12 countries taking part.
